In 2002, California became the first state in the United States to create the Paid Family Leave (PFL) program – a family leave insurance program that provides income replacement to workers on leave for family caregiving or bonding with a new child. This website provides information and key updates about the California PFL program.
This website is maintained by the California Work & Family Coalition. The Coalition is a collaborative of unions and community groups protecting every Californian’s right to a job and a life. We organize working families, make and change policies, and raise public awareness to build family friendly workplaces in California.

The California Work & Family Coalition is one of sixteen state coalitions in the Family Values @ Work consortium working for paid sick days, family leave insurance and other policies that value families at work.
